Winning solutions for start-up CEOs and aspiring writers
I team up with my clients to deliver:
- Writing and editing services for NIH proposals and academic manuscripts, complete with project management options
- coaching services for newsletter writers, and
- branding and website copy.
Assembling your pitch deck for the NIH
Imagine your frontier-edge science, in all its complexity, captured in language that’s clear, concise, and persuasive as hell.
When you first got started, you knew that if you could transfer your hunch into science, that you and your team could improve the lives of thousands, even millions of people. And you’ve been at it for years, and your lab work confirms that your hunch was spot on. Your cutting-edge research has produced well-regarded articles and you have a few more in the queue. Nicely done! With more success, of course, comes more responsibility.
One NIH deadline you’ve been watching just passed, and the next one’s coming up fast. You know it’s going to take 80, 115, maybe 160 hours to assemble a winning R01 or SBIR proposal. And not hours between 11pm and 3am. You need seriously productive hours, for the assembly of nearly 300 pages of well-written materials.
But even if you’re pals with Keith Campbell and Ian Wilmut (the Dolly-the-sheep-cloning guys), and they offered to clone you — and if it were totally fine, ethics wise …
- Are you the best person to see your story to completion?
- Can you represent the complexity of your life’s work in language that’s clear, concise, and compelling?
I know you can get your significance section most of the way there, but that last 20% … it offers a cruel reminder of how the final stages of a project can require an absurd amount of effort. Sometimes even 80%. And that number doesn’t include the lost time with your family. The Saturdays you spent, home alone, hunched over your laptop. And the subsequent restless nights, wondering how your love for science and entrepreneurship morphed into a modern-day version of Cat Steven’s “Cat’s in the Cradle.”
What if you could add a member to your team fully capable of stewarding the last 20-30% of your next SBIR application? In the case of a resubmission, what if you could find a person capable of 80% of the work necessary to get your team on the podium?
With a light edit, developmental edit, or a little bit more, let me ensure that the story of your project is as brilliant as the science behind it.
A Team Player
As an active member of your team, I kick off our discovery phase with questions about your background, what worked and what didn’t, your target audience, the chief rivals in your space and, if applicable, the key limits of rival paradigms. I then review your recent publications and related materials, and return with a more focused set of questions for you and your team. Soon after, I assemble a new version of your story, with due complexity, in a simple, persuasive way. I use my marketing know-how and storytelling skills to help ensure that NIH reviewers understand your research strategy, your commercialization plan, and the prospects for your product to become a category king. Also: I’m serious about the “team” part.
When we team up, you get me exclusively. I’m not on the down-low with another CEO. I’m a one-lab guy. One application per PA (or FOA). No exceptions.

For newsletter writers
While every social media app regularly updates its algorithms (and jeopardizes the integrity of your list in the process), e-mail remains the most reliable platform, which means newsletters are here to stay.
Let’s make sure you secure the attention of your readers today and expand their ranks tomorrow. For more information on my coaching and editing packages, click here.
Your website is your company’s virtual PR rep, at their desk 24/7, explaining how you build solutions for your clients. Your site should also provide the social proof necessary to get your prospects to overcome any reservations and act today. Does your current site:
- Know the mindsets of your prospects (from problem aware to ready for action)?
- Give your prospects what they need (from education to reassurance)?
- Provide social proof in language they understand (thought leadership, branding)?
- Inspire your prospects to act today (CTAs that help you help them)?
What if your virtual PR gal could more effectively pre-sell one, two, or even five new prospects a month? Let’s make sure your site understands your ideal prospects.
So … what’s the best way to tell your company’s story? Do your offers include a single device, a family of services, or a double-LP’s worth of products and services? Each of our packages includes our deep-dive discovery phase, along with three stages of deliverables, including:
- Core copy + 1: we take this extra step to ensure that we’re in sync, by reviewing with you a draft of mission and vision statements, taglines and About copy, ahead of the draft of all copy.
Package #1: The Extended Play: $2,375
You and your team are ready to grow your fan base for your signature service or device. You’re effectively doing one thing, and doing it brilliantly, so let’s keep the scale simple and lean. Together we’ll put together toe-tapping copy that grabs hold of your prospects’ attention and keeps them bouncing along the buyer’s journey.
- Final deliverable: Core copy + Home + About + 2 more pages.

Our most elaborate package fits the needs of two different types of companies:
